MEET THE STAFF

ROBERT D. NATION (Artistic Director/ Executive Producer/Acting Instructor) is a native New Yorker and an Educational Theatre professional, with over 30 years of experience training actors and directing live theatrical productions. He has guided the careers of children, teens, college students and adults, who have worked on Broadway and in Hollywood and produced touring companies comprised of young people who have traveled with their shows to London, Los Angeles, Florida, Hawaii and the Bahamas. His broad range of talents include directing musicals, designing, building costumes, coaching interscholastic debate and mock trial, and is himself, a performer. Mr. Nation created and nurtured one of the most respected and successful high school theatre programs in the northeast for 30 years and was recently honored by the Paper Mill Playhouse as the Best Director of Musicals in NJ schools. Mr. Nation and his wife recently decided to return to Florida where they purchased his parents former vacation home in Fort Lauderdale. Get to know Bob via this great video

CHRISTOPHER DE PAOLA (Literary Manager) comes to ALA from Chicago where he has spent the last several years committed to developing new plays. He has assisted theatres such as Victory Gardens and Chicago Dramatists with new work and is thrilled to bring playwriting to ALA. He is founder of South Florida Playwrights’ Initiative, a project aimed at making South Florida a premiere incubator of new work.  He is co-founder of LOCAL 75, a workshop focused on seeking out and developing working class plays.  Christopher is a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatists, where he also co-founded, produced and hosted Instant Theatre, a monthly evening of new work. His play THE IMAGINE MAN was presented in the Victory Gardens’ festival Ignition: Emerging Playwrights of Color.  He spent all of 2007 as head writer on the television series GREEN SCREEN ADVENTURES.  His two plays MORNING TRAFFIC and DREAM WATER were commissioned and published by Pearson Education/Scott Foresman. His plays STREETS COME KNOCKING and RECOVERED were presented in Chicago Dramatists’ 2006 & 2007 Many Voices Project. Productions include: WHAT I KNEW THEN (NYC); THE DIALOGUE BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN (NYC).  Christopher is also an Emmy Award nominated actor for his role as co-star of the series GREEN SCREEN ADVENTURES.  He has extensive theatre credits in Florida, Chicago and NYC.   Christopher is also a founding member of the NYC improve troupe Devil’s Dancebelt.  His teaching credits include playwriting and acting classes at Ohio University, Marietta College, Steppenwolf Theater, After School Matters, John Casablancas and various Chicago Public High Schools.  He holds a BFA in Acting from Otterbein College, and an MFA in Playwriting from Ohio University. christopher@sofloplaywrights.com

MIRIAM KULICK (Acting Instructor) is originally from New York City, where she trained professionally at the Terry Schreiber Studio, and performed in numerous theatre, television, film, and dance venues. In South Florida she has been seen on many local stages; Area,Acme, Mosaic, Gablestage, New Theatre, Shores Theater, Waterfront Playhouse, The Women’s Theatre Project, among others, as well as in television and film. She was the past vice-president of The Women’s Theatre Project and Co- Founder of Square Peg Productions, where she received the 2007 New Times Best of Miami award for best actress in the theatrical production of, “Three Angels Dancing on a Needle”, which also received the award for best ensemble. An online business campaign commercial where Miriam played, “Missy Coli”, with Factory Interactive, was the only US company to garner a Caples Award out of 850 worldwide entries. Miriam’s upcoming two person show, is an evening of all her own original material: Almost Tamed – Tales of Mayhem, Motion, and Malarky, where she will be acting in it as well.
