Andrews Living Arts Studio Mission Statement

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Robert D. Nation, Andrews Living Arts Studio is education based and is dedicated to nurturing and shaping the next generation of artists by offering a Studio Classroom for teaching, Gallery Space for exhibits by Fine Artists and a fully equipped stage for theatrical presentations.  Our goal includes: making the fine and performing arts accessible to everyone, including the underprivileged and those with special needs through: New Play Development,  Acting Classes and Audition Preparation, Performance Showcases, Plays, Musicals, and Internships for upcoming artists.  Students gain life skills and a respect for each other through training in the arts and our audiences are enriched through the cultural art of presentations.

Andrews Living Arts Studio Vision Statement

Andrews Living Arts Studio is strategically located in the heart of downtown, Fort Lauderdale and is the performance arts anchor of the newest Arts District  -  Flagler Arts and Technology Village. It is a completely unique and flexible space in which the bold entrepreneurial spirit of creativity can be nurtured and flourish.

Studio Classes

Children, teens and adults, may enroll in classes in every discipline of the dramatic arts focused primarily on developing the next generation of artists through a blend of artistic philosophies including our own “arts and wellness” program. (see our website) Additionally, through a designation of non-profit- YTAP / Youth Theatre Arts Project and the 501C-3 designation, applied for, Andrews Living Arts Studio will be able to provide assistance to the underprivileged,  to enable members to participate in performing arts classes and to attend shows/events at no charge or for a minimal fee.

New Play Development

ALA provides playwright workshops in which students may develop new works -plays and musicals. The process includes improvisation and collaboration through a network of peers and instructors as well as professional supporters and adjudicators.

Performance

ALA makes it a priority to showcase local talent and add value to the community at large by generating productions from within our own programming.  We do this by producing four mainstage productions every calendar year, along with seasonal showcases for rising talent;  ALA will become a destination for local community events.

 Rental  Space

ALA has a versatile, black box theatre space that includes elevated platforms, flexible theatre seating,  private smaller meeting areas, and a private, atrium patio. We offer an innovative and evolving, flexible space  with neutral decor where businesses, community organizations, and various groups may gather to experience creative synergy beyond the boardroom, conference room or office space.

Artwalks

ALA features a studio classroom, and considerable wall space for the display of fine art.   The facility is a flexible environment where artists of every age and medium can gather to display, create, teach, learn, present, and explore the arts in all of its forms.  In cooperation with Flagler Arts Village, “Art Walks” are scheduled for the 4th Saturday of every month. Take a walk through our venues featuring fine works of art by artisans throughout Florida and across the country.

Internships

ALA Studio is a licensed, professional theatrical venue. There are opportunities for college students in search of hands-on training beyond the classroom in a professional, educational atmosphere. Internships may be available for credit as approved by the individual colleges and universities.

The studio welcomes motivated college students interested in learning more about the fine arts and theatre professions. Work side-by-side with our staff on stage lighting and sound design, costumes, props, make-up, scenic design, construction and marketing in a working, professional theatre. As an accredited facility, high school students may also earn community service points.

The INTERNSHIP PROGRAM may be long or short term and is supervised by the owner and artistic director Robert D. Nation. Mr. Nation is a 35 year veteran teacher who holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Theatre and English and over 150 productions to his credit including work on Broadway.
